The research project “Research and development of integrative analyses for marine ecosystem change and establishment of an ocean brain-circulation platform” proposed by WPI-AIMEC has been selected under the “ASPIRE for Top Scientists” framework of the Adopting Sustainable Partnerships for Innovative Research Ecosystem(ASPIRE) Program supported by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), a governmental organization under the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT).

This project aims to approach the fundamental question “What are the response and adaptation mechanisms of marine ecosystems to Earth system changes?” while fostering young researchers through international interdisciplinary research and brain circulation. For this purpose, we plan to select applicants who are enrolled in GP-EES, who are engaged in research contributing to the research and development to elucidate the spatiotemporal changes of marine ecosystems in response to Earth system changes through an integrated approach of physical oceanography, geochemistry, ecology, and mathematical data science, and who are planning to conduct research stays of 12 months or more at partner institutions in the United States or Germany. We plan to provide additional financial support to these selected students.
