GP-EES received Presidential Prize for Educational Excellence 2021.
This prize is presented to the faculty and staff who made significant achievements in education activities with sincerity and enthusiasm based on the educational philosophy of Tohoku University. Normally, this prize is awarded and introduced to graduates at the commencement ceremony. In this year, under Covid-19 circumstances, we received a diploma from the president on 15 March.
Reason for the prize:
GP-EES has contributed to the international joint education in Earth and Environmental Sciences. Since the program started in October 2016, GP-EES has signed agreements between more than 10 prestigious universities overseas. From Tohoku University, 9 students completed the jointly supervised degree program and 2 students received double degrees. From the University of Bayreuth the partner of our university, 3 students finished the jointly supervised degree program. These achievements were highly evaluated by the external evaluation committee. Therefore, GP-EES was judged to be qualified for Presidential Prize for Educational Excellence 2021.
This prize will encourage us to press on to develop globally active researchers who have the motivation and ability to understand the entire Earth system.
